About
Dr Alexander Vervaecke is an orthopaedic surgeon with specific expertise in shoulder pathology. He treats the full spectrum of shoulder disorders, from sports injuries and instability to rotator cuff pathology, shoulder trauma and osteoarthritis. Non-operative treatment, arthroscopy and prosthetic surgery are all part of his expertise.
After training as an orthopaedic surgeon at the University of Antwerp, he pursued further training in shoulder surgery through several international programmes. He completed specialised fellowships at Hôpital Ambroise-Paré in Paris, Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, Stadtspital Zürich and Centre Santy in Lyon.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Vervaecke is actively involved in research on shoulder pathology and shoulder arthroplasty and has published more than 25 articles in international scientific journals. His research focuses in particular on optimising preoperative planning and implant positioning in shoulder arthroplasty. His scientific work has received international recognition with the SECEC Grammont Award and the SECEC Junior Prize of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and Elbow.
Dr Vervaecke is a staff member of Orthoca (Orthopaedic Center Antwerp), affiliated with AZ Monica, and a consultant at Antwerp University Hospital (UZA). His practice centres on an evidence-based, patient-centred approach: the most suitable treatment is chosen together with the patient.
